The journey of the salmon selected by Nordic Prime begins in Norway, at Sekkingstad, a Norwegian family company with a tradition spanning three generations, which we selected for its experience, commitment to quality and product consistency.

From there, the journey continues to Landskrona, in southern Sweden, where Stefan Pålsson’s expertise transforms carefully selected salmon into a product with a distinct identity.

For us, quality does not begin with packaging or a marketing story. It begins with origin, the quality of the fish and the people who know how to bring out its full potential. That is why we select products whose origins, the people behind them and our reasons for choosing them can be explained clearly and simply.

Norwegian Salmon. Swedish Expertise.

Norway is one of the established origins of Atlantic salmon and the starting point for our selection.

The salmon comes to us through Sekkingstad in Norway, before continuing its journey to Sweden. For Nordic Prime, it is important to be able to trace the product from this stage and to know who stands behind the salmon we select.

But origin alone does not guarantee the quality of the final product.

The selection of the fish, the characteristics of the fillet, careful handling and the uninterrupted cold chain all matter. Equally important is what comes next: preparation, temperature, timing and the experience of the person working with the salmon.

A good process cannot compensate for poor-quality fish, while exceptional salmon can lose its qualities if it is not handled correctly. For Nordic Prime, origin and expertise must go hand in hand.

That is why the journey continues from Norway to Sweden.

Landskrona and Stefan Pålsson

In Landskrona, Nordic Prime works with Stefan Pålsson, a Swedish specialist in salmon preparation and smoking who has worked professionally with salmon since 1989.

The company’s story has its roots in Kryddans Rökeri, where the technique of smoking boneless salmon fillets was developed. As the business expanded, a new smokehouse was built in Landskrona in 2001.

Over the years, Stefan Pålsson’s products have been supplied to restaurants, retailers and professional distributors, while collaborations with some of Sweden’s leading chefs have contributed to the development and refinement of the range.

Experience is about more than following a recipe. It means understanding the fish, the temperature, the timing and the balance between the salmon and the smoking process.

Stefan Pålsson produces both cold-smoked and hot-smoked salmon — two methods that create distinctly different results in texture, flavour and culinary use.

From Landskrona to the Nobel Banquet

Some milestones say more about a producer than any slogan ever could. Stefan Pålsson’s products were selected for the Nobel Banquet in Stockholm in 1997 and again in 2003.

The company’s products have also been served at events connected with the Swedish Royal Court, as well as at occasions associated with the Danish and British royal households.

We do not use these milestones to turn every product into “Nobel salmon”. They do, however, show that the producer has worked in environments where consistency, precision and quality control are essential.

For Nordic Prime, that says more than any advertising claim.

International Recognition

Over the years, Stefan Pålsson’s products have received numerous distinctions at the Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food.

In 2004, eight products were entered into the competition, receiving three Gold awards, one Silver and two Bronze. Further awards followed for various salmon specialities.

In 2012, Varmrökt Dubbelfilé and Coeur de Filet were among the award-winning products, while in 2014, Whole Hot Smoked Salmon received the Golden Fork Award – Best Imported Speciality.

For us, awards are not an end in themselves. Their value lies in what they confirm over time: experience built through decades of working with fish, seasoning, temperature, timing and smoke.

Experience Cannot Be Rushed

Equipment can be purchased, technology can be installed and recipes can be reproduced. Experience is built over time.

It means understanding the differences between batches, recognising how the salmon responds and knowing when the process has reached exactly the right point. When it comes to smoking, more does not necessarily mean better. The smoke should complement the salmon, not overpower it.

This accumulated expertise is one of the reasons why we chose to work with Stefan Pålsson.

Why Nordic Prime Selects, Not Just Distributes

Nordic Prime was not created to build the largest catalogue of Nordic products. There are already enough large catalogues.

We prefer to start with the product, its origin and the producer, and ask one simple question: why does this product deserve a place on the Romanian market?

If we cannot answer that clearly, the product has no place in our selection. In the case of smoked salmon, the answer rests on three elements: Norwegian salmon, Swedish expertise and a producer with more than three decades of experience in the field.

We are not looking for gimmicks, nor do we invent traditions. We look for products whose quality can be explained through their origin, the expertise behind them and the way they are made.

From the Nordic Countries to Romania

Nordic Prime connects carefully selected Nordic products and producers with the Romanian market — the first step in a broader expansion into Eastern Europe.

Smoked salmon reflects the idea behind Nordic Prime particularly well: a product whose journey we can follow from its origin through to the process that defines its flavour and identity.

Norwegian salmon. Smoked in Sweden. Selected for Romania.

Not simply because it is Nordic, but because we know why we chose it.

Origin tells the story. Taste makes the difference.

A Message from the Founder

For me, selection begins with transparency.

I want every Nordic Prime customer, buyer and partner to know what stands behind a product: where it comes from, who produces it, how it is made and why we chose to include it in our selection.

That is why we believe the people and partners behind our products deserve to be known, and why we tell their stories as they are — through origin, experience and identity.

Know the origin. Meet the makers. Just taste it.

Warm regards,
Laurentiu
